Michael’s Craft Store Coupon Surprise

Filed under: A Year In Socks KAL, Knitting — Karen @ 5:36 pm

On Saturday, on the way home from the BIG E,   (see the blue ribbon pumpkin)

I stopped at Michael’s to check out knitting books.  I saw one I liked entitled Textured Knits.  Great, I thought.  I can wait until tomorrow and use the Sunday paper coupon.   On Monday on my way to baby sit I hit Michael’s, ran to the book section and — WTF  — the coupons don’t cover books or  any magazines more.  I made the poor girl read it out-loud because I didn’ believe it!  She said it was a new policy and she was very nice about it.  On the way out she gave me an extra 40% off coupon. Now I have the book and am $12 poorer.

I’ve finished my Guernsey Sweater.  I went to Sit N Knit in Bloomfield and had a lesson on finishing from Helen.  I am please how the seams came out.  Here is a picture of it in Bloomfield.

I ‘ve also finished the Tidal Wave Socks in Noro’ Silk Garden fiber.   Here is a picture of one finished.  I was unhappy with the way they ended up.  I think the leg section is too large.  I used 64 stitches on 4 size 2 dpns.  Any suggestions?   I may frog them and make something-else.  I wish I knew what I did wrong.

In addition I’ve started a sweater for me out of some hand dyed Australian Merino.  I cast on the back and then played around with some detail for center back so it would be interesting to knit rather than  stockinette stitch.   I decided on a couple of ribs and a center cable.

Now I’m off to feed my grandson and take him to football practice.  My part time gig for the next 2 months.

He’s not too crazy about his picture being taken.  My granddaughter is the red hair over his right shoulder.
