I have three major projects growing: My February Lady Sweater - 60% finished, My Australian Wool 85%, and a pair of socks 85%. My friend Martine is coming to see her boyfriend for Thanksgiving (from Canada) and she suggested we go to Sit N Knit Too to start a new project. I hope to have one of them finished before I start my next one. I hate to get more wool but I know I will. I have soo much stash. I need to sell or trade some more on Ravelry.
I’m almost finished with “For Whom The Bell Tolls” and can’t wait for them to blow up the bridge. Hemingway’s style of writing in short declarative sentences makes the characters seem somewhat illiterate at least to me, but I’m told it was a revolutionary new way of writing hailed by the critics.
The other night I was at Stew Lenords on the Berlin Turnpike and when I went out to the car it was dark and their Christmas light were on and there was a rather large Christmas Tree shinning colorfully.
I was still for a moment with a feeling of déjà vu. I looked at the lights and felt that I should have a joyful feeling, but it just wouldn’t come. I remember shopping for Christmas Dinners Past and my goal was to make the holiday a memory for my children and husband. I would finally relax when the prep was finished and the atmosphere was pleasurable.
That night I just couldn’t feel the excitement. Perhaps it’s not having children waking up on Christmas morning or the expectation of family and friend arrival. Maybe it’s the fact that we don’t host Christmas anymore or have any “wants” for gifts. Maybe it’s the fact that my Grandchildren have so much that they don’t seem (to me anyway and I know that is a generational thing beause I heard the same thing from my mother) have the expectation of Santa bringing them something that they really want.
The holiday now seems more commercial and the state of my country is in disarray and I’ve been watching the news about CT Food Share. I know I’m echoing the sentiments of the talking heads on TV, but that’s just the way I feel.
I think this year I’ll give more to charity.
I’ve been busy taking care of people lately. First my granddaughter stayed with me for 5 days because she has a perforated ear drum and then she went home Saturday and her brother spent the night along with my daughter who had sciatic nerve pain and was on bed rest. Wednesday everyone went home and we went to the Harvest Festival at Joni’s. That night I just sat on the couch and knitted , skipped stitch n bitch.
On a knitting note, I’ve been busy with my February lady’s sweater and in between I’ve been working on a pair of socks and finished an Odessa hat. Here they are:

On Wednesday, John and I were invited by my grandson to eat at their harvest festival. Here’s a picture of Jake, gram-pa is standing outside the picture because he had a hard time sitting on the chairs. Knees aren’t what they used to be

Last week we went to Cabela’s to get a deer whistle. I wanted to lure the deer closer to watch. It was an interesting place. The had a couple of museum rooms and in one of them they that stuffed game. I took a picture of this fisher cat that are roaming in our back yard and the reason we have no squirrels.
I’m off to write the menu for Thanksgiving Dinner and to keep on truckin’ on the lace.
bye
Sunday the championship game between the black and silver teams of the Farmington Valley Mudhogs Football League was won by the black team. My grandson #60 starts offense and defense for the black team. Here he is waiting for the punting team to come back; no. 60 4th standing from the right.

My granddaughter, who is 8, is a cheerleader for the Farmington Valley Mudhogs silver team. When it was all over she had the quote of the day:
“Who won?”

I am making progress on the cable sweater, 1/2 inch at the top of the sleeve. I’ve seamed the shoulders and will block the sweater today. I ran out of yarn because I made it so long. Now I have to figure out something to do with the shawl collar.
The February Lady’s sweater is coming along nicely. I freaked to get knit where we were supposed to be for the lesson and found I was one of the few who got that far. So I ripped down to some errors and re-knit and am ready to increase for the lace, and I still have 9 more days to do that.
I am also down to the foot on the Berrocco Comfort socks.
I always thought I was lucky that my husband never noticed how much yarn I have. Today there was a package in the mailbox and he said, “just what we need, more yarn”. Hah!
Yesterday hubby and I went to the Berlin Library to start on our quest to read the classics. I have to stutter stop and read The Last Lobster by Stewart O’Nan for the book club in December, because the author will be there and I bought a book to be autographed. We also got The Red Badge of Courage and For Whom the Bell Tolls, plus a light reading novel and a book on take to knit by.
Let’s watch the election results tonight!
